"...the only way on earth to influence other people is to talk about what they want and show them how to get it." ~ Dale Carnegie

How does coaching work?

Coaching reveals and challenges the way things are and the way they tend to stay the same. Coaching then opens up ways to change that so you can create the results you want. That's why it is so effective in situations where the usual remedies don't seem to help because the usual remedies are usually part of the problem.

This type of coaching that goes to the root of the matter is called "ontological." This model shows how ontological coaching differs from performance coaching.

Observer --> Action --> Result

Performance coaching supports change at the level of action. You can see from the model that if you change your action you will change the result you get. That's nice, and it's limited. Ontological coaching goes one step further and intervenes at the level of the OBSERVER (that's you--the client). When you shift as an observer, you generate a new range of possible actions, opening up a whole new world of possible results.

Coaching Options

Private Coaching

I work with a select number of personal clients in private phone sessions. As a personal coaching client, you will begin by completing a written Coaching Intake and Inventory that establishes the context for our work. You will have an opportunity to reflect deeply and in detail about the kinds of changes you want to make as a result of our work. We will review this document together until we can articulate what has to happen for coaching to be a top quality investment.

As a private coaching client, you will have three 40-minute sessions, usually scheduled in the 2nd/3rd/4th weeks of each month. Coaching continues between sessions as you practice new approaches and implement strategies and tactics to create the results you want. As a private client you receive unlimited ongoing support between sessions by email. You might share progress between calls, send information, crow about a success, or vent frustration when you encounter obstacles. You may also use email to send me such materials as your personal mission statement, resume, marketing plan or other documents that may be pertinent to our work together.

As a private coaching client you may also request brief check-in calls or calls of encouragement/debriefing before and after an important action. Regardless of how we design your unique coaching support system, there is never an extra charge unless you wish to renegotiate your coaching contract. You pay one monthly rate for all coaching services.

Group Coaching

Group coaching leverages the possibilities for growth and effective change because you learn from each other as well as from your coach. Groups of 8 to 12 participants typically convene around a common concern (e.g., exploring our shadow side or applying spiritual principles in everyday life) for one hour once a week for 8 or 9 weeks; at end of that time, there are options for continuing with or without new members. Between phone calls, coaching groups can trade insights, solutions and share their successes and challenges.
